Well, We're back.
The Temple Garden Mineral Spa was wonderful.
We were in Moose Jaw by 3:00 on Saturday afternoon. We made pretty good time in spite of missing the turn off in Saskatoon and taking the longer, slightly worse highway. It was windy, and the snow was blowing like crazy, but the highway wasn't too bad. We found ourselves on the single lane Highway 2 instead of Highway 11 which is twinned all but the last 1/2 hour from Saskatoon to Moose Jaw.
We stayed at the Super 8 for the first night and went over to the Mineral Spa for some treatments. I enjoyed an upper body massage and My Girl had a full body wrap... with mud or something. Sounded sticky to me, but she enjoyed it. She offered me a full body massage, but I think I made the right choice. I would have been a walking... or not... spaghetti had I been pummeled and squeezed for an hour. Nope. I would have been one big jelly blob. As it was I started the weekend relaxed and coddled feeling. Very nice.
We met Linea (who just happened to be in the neighborhood for a course) and Her Girl for supper at a Thai place recommended by her sister, and we had a great time with them.
We spent Sunday poking around downtown, checking into the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa Resort Hotel and taking in a "Tunnel Tour". We had lunch at the National Cafe, and ordered Room Service for supper. We went soaking in the Hot Mineral Water Pool twice and played some Canasta and watched a little TV, and just had a really good, relaxing time.
She's starting to post pictures here... check them out.
To sum up:
-It is exciting to have a working daughter who wants to spend time with you, and has the ability to save her wads to treat you to a Spa weekend away.
-When the Super 8 Motel says "breakfast included" they mean breakfast. There were fresh waffles, cold cereal, toast, muffins, fresh fruit, tea, coffee, fruit juice...
-I asked for "tea" at the National Cafe, and was served, at a restaurant, for the first time in my life, a cup with boiling water and a tea bag. I thought it funny in a "strange" way, but they were completely redeemed by offering me, for the first time in my life, at a restaurant, a new bag when I requested more hot water.
-Hot Mineral Water Pools are wonderful. We need to get one... on a smaller scale. I'm not kidding. We need to get one. After all, -35 C is the perfect weather for hot tubbing. We can re-build the deck off the back stairs, right under the kitchen window... we've got 10 months of the year that are perfect for hot whirlpool tubs, and the other 2 months it can be unheated for cool-down dipping. Mmmmm.
-Hillary is a good driver.
-I still snore enough for her to accept the use of the ear plugs I brought. (am I not a considerate snorer?!)
-I like living in Hotels.
-After living like the spoiled and pampered it's really hard to get back into dirty dishes and laundry.
-After several weeks of spring-like weather it's really hard to get back into -35.
What a FUN weekend! I'm so glad for you guys!
ReplyDeleteMy sister is a teacher in MJ and I went to see her Christmas concert in Dec..we headed over to the Thai place. It closed at 7 pm or some obscenely early hour, so we couldn't eat there. I hear the food is awesome, though.
"I would have been one big jelly blob"
ReplyDeleteSmall blob, please, at your height.
;?)
It sounds like a wonderful mother/daughter time. What a great thing for her to do with you.
