The Grade 9 Grad went off without a hitch.
The gymnasium was transformed into a starry wonderland for a few hours. The children, by all accounts, had a good time. The food was good, the speeches were inspirational and not too long, and it was a fun evening.
I think we even survived the "After Grad", for the most part.
The majority of the students gathered at the church for a wide game, more food, and a movie before dispersing shortly after 2:00 am. As for me and my house, we were in bed by 2:45.
Except Thomas, who hitched a ride home from the banquet, thus avoiding the clean-up portion of the evening, so he could go to bed at a decent time in preparation for work this morning.
There's no school today. It's "Farmer's Day". This seems to mean that the children get a day off, but the actual farmers keep working. Maybe we're supposed to go around with Tim Horton's coffee and donuts for all the farmers we know. Or honk and wave when we go by a tractor on the highway instead of grinding our teeth while we're waiting to pass.
I don't know.
What I DO know is that I set my alarm for 7:30 so I could be up to wish Thomas a good day and make his lunch or something. That said, I woke up at 6:30, went to the bathroom, wrote him a note about the leftover turkey in the fridge, turned off the alarm and went back to bed.
I was still awake when I heard him in the kitchen an hour later, so I got up anyway. Then I started feeling a little sick and decided I should probably eat breakfast while I was up.
And so, two and a half hours after waking up from three and three quarter hours of sleep, I'm thinking about going back to bed to try again.
Wish me luck.
