*snap* Preteen is done for this year.
I think we had a good run; for a few months there we had 18 kids coming every week, and only, I think, 6 of them from our church. It's been very good. They are a really nice group, and but for the three who get to be promoted to Junior Youth, we'll have the same bunch next year.
I think we ended well today. Snack was a little special- cupcakes provided by one of the newer Moms, Jello with whipped cream and happy sprinkles from me, and the leftover chicken wings from MOPS last week. The Bible study was on forgiveness, a good lesson to take into the summer, and then a very fun relay race that was rewarded by very generous candy bags from Stacey, my co-worker and activities coordinator.
It's been one of those things that I sometimes find myself grumbling about, mostly to myself, before I get there. But it is, honestly, one of the most rewarding things I've done this year. I do like to teach, and I know that I do it well, and it really has felt like these grade 4-6 kids can sense that I like them and they have responded, respectfully, in kind.
A good Pre-Teen Group year.
It's also good to be done for a few months now. I like the feeling of slowly easing into summer rest; like sliding into a hot bubble bath after a three mile walk on the treadmill...
It's a good feeling.
Well, Lauralea, as a mother of Grade 4 and 6 boys, I think the preteen group is pretty cool, actually, and, so far, I really prefer them to the older teens. Far more accepting and ready to go with the flow without complaint. Thanks for helping with an age group that often gets overlooked and undervalued, and please know that your ministry with them is not overlooked or undervalued! Enjoy your summer reprieve!
