If It Smells Like Popcorn
But you’re cooking rice,
It’s probably too late and you’ll have to start again.
You may also need a new pot.

Been there, done that. Sprinkle baking soda all over the bottom of the pot and leave it on the counter for a few days. Eventually Randall will get tired of seeing it there and will scrub it out for you.

Two words – rice cooker. You’ll never look back AND you’ll never burn rice again. Get a big one.

I mostly rescued the pot. Did the baking soda+vinegar and water thing. Brought it to a boil on the stove and let it sit for a bit. The bottom of the pot is pretty much un-black again.
And, I had a rice cooker once, back in the day. But I never used it. I think, for me now, the thing would be storage space. We eat more rice than we used to, but we eat two kinds now. I make white for them and brown for me, so I’d either need 2 rice cookers, or I’d still be watching the stove. So… I just need to remember that I’ve put the rice on to cook. And not walk away before it’s come to the boil while it’s still on high heat. And not get distracted by Micah coming home from school. And definitely not check the Facebook Scrabble games before I’ve turned it down to simmer…
